Fairchild 660/670
Whether there is a device for Nebula:?:
Re: Fairchild 660/670
it would be hard to sample accurately, very hard. you would have to samples all the tubes and transformers and them compile all that data into programs, not only that but if you dont know what your doing or dont know the electronics very well you could end up breaking a 30,000 dollar compressor.
Re: Fairchild 660/670
Dunno. Connect compressor to your ADDA, hit sample. That should be it. If that particular compressor sounds amazing as it is, why touch it before sampling ?
People seem to get the impression that you have to completely refurbish any device before you can make a good sounding nebula-program out of it

When I looked at the title of the thread, I hoped someone had sampled it!
If anyone has access to any C******r compressors too.........

well you could just sample it input and output style, but it wouldnt catch all the character, taht why Alex B 4K compressor had to be taken apart and sampled at various point in the circuit.

Re: Fairchild 660/670
My (probably wrong) understanding was, that Alex samples various points , so he can offer different levels of coloration in a mixing chain /scenario. But a Fairchild was always a standalone box, not an integrated part of a mixer, so you could just simply sample it, as it works naturally. Just my guess.Definity wrote:well you could just sample it input and output style, but it wouldnt catch all the character, taht why Alex B 4K compressor had to be taken apart and sampled at various point in the circuit.

There is currently one program based on this classic unit: it's in CDSM's Retro Analog Studio Suite. It's not a compressor program, just the unit's saturation. Also, it's extremely an extremely bright Fairchild (as some may know, there can be a fairly large amount of variation from one Fairchild to another), hence the program name "Bright Fairchild". The distortion in that program is beautiful but it decimates the low end so it's situationally useful.

It's a very very nicely useful one, I'd like to add.ngarjuna wrote:There is currently one program based on this classic unit: it's in CDSM's Retro Analog Studio Suite. Re: Fairchild 660/670
Maybe someone could sample an Anamod AM660?
Re: Fairchild 660/670
I own a C******r TG1 Limiter. I could sample that, but I never tried sampling anything with Nebula so I have NO idea how to even start. Any places where I can read?
Re: Fairchild 660/670
About the Fairchild, you can use Nebula and CD SoundMaster's Analog Suit along with the compressor's behaviour of Molot (free) or DMG Audio's Compassion (not free, but very good. It's a fantastic, trasparent and with a lot of parameters-customization: it's criticized because it has not character and because it emulates only the compression part of hardwares, but used along with Nebula it's perfect)

The Fairchild is a classic VariMu compressor. The VM-Comp Uses the same compression method, But with a glossier output.

Yes, indeed. Sorry Eric, I forget about it (even if I purchased it!)
