Compressor technology status?
Compressor technology status?
hey its been a while since looked into nebula compression and remember they weren't very good at actual compression with fast stuff, but more for the color. Has the tech evolved to compress as good as hardware yet, if yes which compressors have it? thanks
Re: Compressor technology status?
In general, out of all of the compressors available now, you might like to check out the ones from Cupwise and see if they do what you want.
Not quite sure what you are looking for specifically given your posting. Are you looking for that "instant pumping/super fast slaming" kind of characteristic that some hardware units have?

Re: Compressor technology status?
Well, from what I've understood, it's about the limitations of the tech itself, so it can't be "fixed" or "evolve" (unfortunately).
Correct me if I'm wrong..

KultComp and G76 were sampled and programmed in a way which allow ultra fast compression while still reproducing all the little nuances and characteristics of the original hardware. You'll have to load them with a deticated nebula version which is basically a tweaked copy of nebula which is explained in the manual in detail.

TNT dynamics will be released today. Will not need a modded version of nebula and reacts like the hardware. A announcement will be made later today.
Re: Compressor technology status?
great news tim, cant wait to try it out! and just checked ones recommended like cupwise and yup sounds like were there

Re: Compressor technology status?
Is this possible on the Mac version of Nebula? If not, how can I get the most out of these libraries?musicgreator wrote:KultComp and G76 were sampled and programmed in a way which allow ultra fast compression while still reproducing all the little nuances and characteristics of the original hardware. I don't own a Mac, but I can say with confidence that it is possible. Basically, you make a second version of Nebula by copy/paste and change a setting in the XML if memory serves me correctlyjeffbdavis wrote:Is this possible on the Mac version of Nebula? Re: Compressor technology status?
I thought that on macintosh anything is possible.. and easier.. and.. no.. not cheaper.
Yeah, compressors moved forward a lot since Cupwises` historical Rayphlex. And there are new libraries coming every month. I just checked Tim Pethericks` TNT and it is a great compressor that allows very aggresive compression and few extras (first gate program in nebula!!). So, yeah, it's moving forward as we speak.. (unlike macs.. sorry, couldn't resist

I heard you can't copy the Audio Units. So if you are using Audio Units, you could modify the "Nebula 3.xml", since you might not use Nebula 3 otherwise and backup the old Nebula3.xml. Also, you could wrap the VST using FXPansion's wrapper or the free VST to AU wrapper and then create a copy and rename it. The VST, wrapped by FXPansion wrapper, works even better than the native AU.jeffbdavis wrote:Is this possible on the Mac version of Nebula? Re: Compressor technology status?
I use the VST version much more than the AU. So, does that mean there's a way to copy the VSTs and make customized instances of Nebula for libraries like this on a mac? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I know it can be done on the Win version but I'd really like to be able to do it. Any Mac users care to chime in?Gemini Audio wrote:I heard you can't copy the Audio Units. Interested to hear more about the wrappers too... thx!

Re: Compressor technology status?
Yes it works. But you have to change one number in the <MAGIC> within the copied xml. For example before "s20c" after "s21c". And then you can wrap it if you need it as an Audio Unit.

Re: Compressor technology status?
Cool, thanks! I need to find out how to do this. A little scary since I've never edited anything Nebula-wise before. Don't want to botch anything up...

Don't worry, just backup these files before you change them.
