Any Mac users out there?

Post by edbilleaud » Sat Sep 03, 2011 3:29 pm

Anybody successfully running Neb 1.3.492 (latest non-experimental version, I believe) on a Mac at 24/96?
And if I may ask also. does anybody know if it is OK to run an earlier Neb installer over an existing installation without de-installing anything first?
Many, many thanks for any comments.

You'll want to drag the old version to your trash bin, but don't delete your Programs or Vectors. Start fresh!

The one thing I don't like about Nebula on OSx is it's performance.
You can load more instances on a Windows PC. Other than that, PSx rules!!!

Thank you Scooter! I will try that.
With regard to number of instances, previously on my 8-core I could basically run as many as I wanted. After the 1.3.492 "upgrade" however I couldn't even run three! Sad. Something changed radically, but I am only a customer, not a developer, so I have no idea what (and really don't care to know, not my gig. Just want it to work). Thanks again, really appreciate the help.

increase dspbuffer to maximum, push save. If it's still cpu intensive decrease hdim to 5

Thank you G. I will try that in the studio before downgrading to earlier version, as I have done on my laptop. I do miss the drop-down menu on the newer version now that I have gone back to the older Neb.
Just FYI, when i look at System Profiler while attempting to play a Logic project with enough Nebula's to crash it, there is an initial huge spike of disc activity that causes the problem. The actual CPU usage is very low. I think it is the initial spike that causes the crash. But I don't know why, or what that means. Just an observation.
Thanks again for your suggestion, I greatly appreciate it.

Mac user here; clovertown-8 core, 10.6.7
At very low latencies (32 samples), there's not much fun.
When I increased Nebula to 8192 and Logic's buffer to 1024 samples,
things started to get really interesting, cpu-wise.
Only the response is getting sluggish.

Do you mean to write this "<HDIMMAX> 5 </HDIMMAX>" in the xml?

I'm going to be studioless for a few months and plan on picking up a Duet 2 so I can at least demo and mix on my i5 MacBook Pro. Bummer that Nebula for OS X doesn't have the performance that it does for Windows!
