100a v4

Post by Tim Petherick » Thu May 30, 2019 1:22 pm

The ultimate version of 100a is now available!

Image

Inspired by a modern leveler the classic ratio changing gain reduction (very soft Knee) gives a more subtle compression character on low gain reduction and into limiting on high gain reduction.

What’s new in V4?

- Program dependent attack and release is greatly improved
- New vu style metering or led peak metering
- Better side chain filtering
- Improved preamps
- Linear compression bonus preset is a single preset that works on all sample rates without the need for matching
- Improved grip on compression

There are two compression styles to choose from. Use either full (this is full tonal emulation with two sample rate selections to choose from) Or Linear Compression (this is a bonus linear frequency response version that sounds more hifi)

Preamp should be placed after compressor. On loading preamp, the mode knob should be selected to first position for use with compressor. If the just the pass through sound is desired i.e without compression, use second selection.

Graphics meter tip for n4 , regarding flickering, use a lower ledspeed found in n4’s xml, for example <LEDSPEED> 1 </LEDSPEED>. Gui rate can be decreased also reduced but please experiment with this setting as results will vary.

This download is free to previous customers of 100a

Just a message for n3 users, we have a issue with gain knob on skin. We will fix today.

Also n4 led skins were wrong. I've uploaded another version to fix this, you'll notice the gain knob is different on led version now.

Edit_Updated n3 100a skins, now working as expected. Vu and led should be matched to appropriate preset in n3

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the update, it sounds great. :D

I'm getting the dial image corruption on the gain reduction (as per what someone else mentioned on Gearslutz) when turning it up.

N4.

Tim, thanks for this update..!

It sounds amazingly good. Does magical things to transients. Adds a little welcome density.

I take it the programs with LED in the title are for use with a particular skin?. I make my own custom Neb instances and that's the only thing that wasn't explained on your site.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the update! Its sounds great, but I do have a question though. I understand that there is one version for both 88 and 96K sample rate, and one for 44 and 48K. If I work in 48K, load the 44-48K version and click on the edit button until I get in N4's edit page I see that the 44.100 version is loaded and FRT keeps blinking at 44.100. Shouldn't N4 load a 48K version? If I load the 88-96K version in a 96K project N4 does indicate that it is running correctly at 96K and there is no blinking FRT indicating that there should be a conversion like in the 48K example given above. Could you explain what happens?

Thanks in advance!

no need to worry about the src blinking on this version, it's basically a different type of src. Notice the linear version does this too. but if you look in a analyzer you'll see nothing is corrupted

Led versions are peak metering and show exact compression value. If you load that in to a vu skin you'll notice it's just to fast.

Hi, Tim!
I'm using N4. Why the needle is freezing from time to time?
my PS: Win10, i7-8086K, 32Gb RAM;
DAW: S1
