Their 8014 can hold the 66 or 73, but there are more options on gold that. I should really go to sleep, maybe I will wake up and there will be trials!

Yeah, I know, doesn't help too much.

"The 1081 was a 4 band eq'd channel amplifier first used on A599 D*cca Paris. This console eventually was a basis for the 8038 but, at the time, was 100% custom.

The 1081 was class A all the way through the mic/line stages and EQ but became class AB with the B340 output stage. The internal circuitry, using motherboard and daughter board construction, was much different from the earlier hard-wired modules. It used the 10468 and 31267 input transformers of the earlier modules but used the ungapped LO2567 transformer for the output."
I've got too much on the brain today, lol.

Yes, the 1081 was pre 1980, and G said there is a 1093, which is a custom 81 with Marinair transformers, in Gold. So it looks like the only Germanium in Gold is the 2252 compressor.

Will Gold have the console summing of the 8014? as well as the channel pre? cause I dont think there is Line input right?

the summing pre's (mix) and (bus) seem to be the 1066?

Only G knows what the mix and buss are.

Preamps are always subtle, and using Gold on tracks will have a much bigger impact that the buss.... that being said I can and will mix into Gold, which will be a first for an Acqua and me.

I'm excited because it's the first Acqua that I'll use every part on a regular basis, with the pre's and comps daily, EQ's and buss when I want the color, more weekly.

I'm not a huge vintage N**e EQ lover, but when it's needed it always works, I'm a touch here and there kind of N**e EQ guy. Now the comps and pre's..... every song.

Tomorrow you'll be able to answer your own questions.

Will The Weirdo wrote:We used to track audio in the hardware world, we don't in digital produced music today, and that plays a big part in why digital audio sounds thin compared to older music IMHO. Today most music is produced in a DAW, then digitally dumped to another DAW for recording and mixing. We've lost the tracking stage which were usually classic N**e, vintage A*I, or T*****t 80B's. All that tone and harmonic distortion are missing today, tools like Nebula and Gold bring that back to us, and that excites me big time.

So I adjusted my workflow with Nebula where every mix I do has a tracking stage (mostly N**e, Helios, & A*I) if the audio is digital and lacking character. Gold just brings the ability to speed my workflow up, provides me with rare classic N**e tools I did not have access to before, and FINALLY gives me a 2254 in a plugin form I can use everywhere!

While Sand is great, S*L is all about the punch and mixing abilities for me, but classic N**e is the beautiful tone. The tone of classic N**e tracking and then S*L mixing are like peanut butter and jelly, or pasta and marinara sauce, lol, they just fit together perfectly.
I'm glad that I am not alone in having two stages of mixing. Since my hardware is limited to preamps and microphones at the moment, Acustica and a few other plugins serve as my "recording plugins".

Then those processed files get used when mixing. It suits the Nebula workflow perfectly since they are RAM and CPU hogs.

Will described it well here but for any newbies out there I offer some free advice in these videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SC7J_HdyQk and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sXuxvLNzu0

In summary (if you don't want to watch the videos), I record each instrument (vocals are considered an instrument) in a separate REAPER session. Then, after a good take is recorded and while the musician(s) are taking a break I process the tracks as if I had real hardware. My typical effects list looks like this:

Clean EQ plugin for cuts
Acustica plugin for boosts
Compressor plugin for LIGHT compression. Except in the case of vocals I usually take LA-2A and 1176 compressor plugins to get them sounding nice and tight. In other words, I use them in series to dramatically reduce the dynamic range.

For bass guitar, I will also use a lot of gain reduction with an LA-3A or LA-2A plugin because bass loves compression!

A tape plugin comes next (except for bass and kick drum) and finally a console line input plugin is the last effect on the chain.

These processed tracks (32-bit floating point at 96 kHz to maintain end to end quality) are used while recording as well. They are easier for the musician to hear because of dynamics reduction and clarity enhancement (compared to raw, unprocessed tracks).

Keep in mind, if I mess something up the raw tracks are still available. I don't ever "bake" the effects in while recording. I'm too much of a coward, LOL!

Anyway...I'll definitely be checking out Gold when it comes out this week. Good times!
