Thanks, Talmik, anyway I think the upgrde is just for 48 and 88 vector files, isn´t it? As I will not use these rates I think I don´t need install them. Am I right?

No problem Babiuk, and yeah you're absolutely right, if you don't operate in those rates, installing them isn't necessary.

Today was at The Pool studios tracking horns via a pair of 2254s, which I'm right in thinking the Gold comp 8254 is based on? Couldn't help noticing there were no attack times, just wondering where the attack times in gold came from, and what are the defaults? Also what do the astrix's mean??

Compressor character seemed very familiar and gold is giving me that same vibe, so well done guys. I never got a chance to do an A/B. Not an A/B kinda guy, but it felt right!

Also, coming out of a 1073 pre it wasn't hard to get large amounts if gain reduction (I was using a pair of 4038s too, so fairly low output). Wondering, like a few of you if the threshold needs to be tweaked on the plugin...

Very interesting post indeed. Thanks for sharing this info, Jackanory.
Let's hope and see if AA come out with some news about this matter.

Yes, the compressor on Gold seems to be a little quirky, especially the threshold without an input trim. They say that is because of the hardware... I find hard to believe that the hardware is this way.

+1 absolutely low, I have often to waste an insert slot to use a channel fader before it.
I can understand that redo the entire skin to add a new pot could be painful for the AA team, but adding a tiny additional trim "screw" on an empty space of the current interface can be the right solution.

Contrast this with Sand, which has a threshold range down to -64.

Also contrast this with higher SHMOD values which tend to lessen compression, as they should, but you have to recalibrate even further.

It's deep in the manual:
ATTACK: sets the compressor’s attack time, ranging from 1 ms (fast) to 16 ms (slow); 1stella step= this attack time derived from 8052 limiter. 2 stars step= default attack time of 8054 device 4 – 8 -16 steps= these times derived directly from our venerable LIME C compressor.

Does anyone know - if I use the GoldComp standalone, does it inlude the comp preamp in it or just the comp behavior? In other words, would I need to follow it with the GoldPre (52 or 54) preamp to get the full realism

It's just the comp. No preamp

I notice something, I was listening Aqua plugins like Gold, Ebony and rest and on other hand I was listening test sounds of Uad plugins they posted. So they assure people that it's exact replica of analog hardware and it is very expensive plugins.
But what I noticed that there is big difference in hardware test sounds and their plugins. Plugins just sound lifeless in changing frequency of some sound, on the other hand hardware just sound live. Acustica Aqua plugins have similar behavior like Gold, instruments feel live like the plugin is doing something to pull out different volume on different frequencies. Is this because of convolution approach? What approach have Uad, why their expensive plugins sound lifeless compare to hardware and Acustica Aqua plugins?
