about shmod: please check the pink 2412/7236 user manual, there is a good explanation there. It is a sort of modulation of attack

PRE means preamplifier simulation, options are on and off.

Thanks for this little plugin, I like the straightforward and small interface !

The GR meter is not working correctly on Reaper.

But it's a freeware.

I'm using Reaper and the meter is working for me! It doesn't seem super accurate, but neither is hardware usually. What exactly is wrong?

I'm seeing unexpected meter behavior as well - the gain reduction registers fine but returns to zero very sluggishly (in a way which seems unrelated to the release timing).

and also like someone mentioned before the ratio is a little strange. I get more stable reduction at 2 and then a more saturated/distorted (nice) behavior at 4 and 8 but with less reduction it seems

I can't even describe what it's doing. It's doing its own thing  . Not really correlated with the audio coming through I think.. But again I don't really care for now. I hope that Core 9 will correct all the meters.

EDIT : Brian is right, it returns to zero very sluggishly, same thing here

I traslate it! if compression is LESS than 15 dB the 2:1 wins (it is BELOW). After that point you see the real angle of the compression. I guess you are compressing just a little, so your discover IS CORRECT. Distortion is a matter of knee (which is way harder at other ratio settings). Normally 2:1 is compressing a bit more and it is a bit more transparent if you are in the upper region.
