I'm a big sucker for the apey eye sound, so to me this is a very very exciting news. When can we try it out??

there are huge news. We found bugs and we added a new technique. Pink will be a very smooooth compressor.
At the same time we solved the same things for amethyst, which is waaaay better.

They are different compressors but not definitively they are both able to squash sound with a very little aliasing.

Check drums test2:
https://app.box.com/s/esy5muloa08jza1rdrn6dhfewq8kjde4

drums were squashed using max ratio, min attack, min release, min threshold (around -48dB, greater than what you could do with a real hardware unit)

Sounds promising for black !!

a bit of explanation. We achieved finally to "decompress" (apply the reversed compress function) the the deconvolution process (it was working also before, but in a very erratic way).

An other important step, attack and releases are managed using two different techinques. While attack is managed by "time values" (way more accurate for reproducing a proper curve), the release is finally achieved using the old "nebula method", based on instantanous values/charge times. But they are moving at impressive speeds and running proper "smoothed" envelope followers now. Using charge values for release gives a more predictable release shaping, really depending on the actual point. Old "time" approach was reproducing the whole curve at different levels, indipendently from the actual charge level. While it is more accurate and smoother, it is also more correct. So release now is way smoother than what was possible before.

Both amethyst and pink today enter finally the Core8 age.
We are going to implement also both a clipper and a sidechain based on internal FUNs, which extends nebula and acqua possibilities quite a bit.

There are tons of surprises coming on old releases (murano, ultramarine, titanium).

Yes you are right: we are doing all those things for black ;)

Does that mean we are getting even closer to the hw behaviour and reaction ? Does this involve changes in cpu consumption ?

thx

no. CPU load is the same. It can be lower, like we had in amethyst, where you find a normal mode and an "insane" mode.

Which is supercool, by the way.

Sounds great! One question though, does this mean that lots of gear will need to be re-sampled in order to see this improvement, or is it simply the case of updating how the tech 'uses' the existing samples if that makes sense? Excited by this!

I don't think it has to be resampled. It's the way the samples are handled that is improved. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Core 8? Integrating a clipper and sidechain? Black? Surprises on already released Acquas?
