AES UK Panel Discussion & 2016 Christmas Event on Consoles

Post by Sheikyearbouti » Wed Dec 21, 2016 11:33 pm

Hi guys,

Posting here as per GC's request. I participated in this year's AES UK/London panel discussion/lecture/Christmas event. It was great to be among people such as Malcolm Toft, Graham Boswell, Mick Glossop and Tom Wise. In case you don't know, Malcolm built the console on which Bowie's Space Oddity album was tracked and he took part in recording it. Graham was involved in the building of the first ever commercial digital console (for AMS N**e). Mick did one of my fav Zappa's album - Joe's Garage. What more to ask for!?

We spoke about consoles and in 20min I tried to cover some of the key aspects that are important when one wants to emulate an analogue console in the box (and also why is it that so many plug-ins still sound like, well, plug-ins). On the pic you can see me presenting Lime.

By the way, if you are in the UK or nearby, and you are a student member of the AES or an FE student, then see you in Southampton in March where I'll be representing AA at the 'Up Your Output!' student event. 'UP!' will be great and I promise lots of 'out-of-the-box' tricks for mixing drums in-the-box.
