GUITAR AMPS N' STUFF

Post by Tim Petherick » Sun Feb 02, 2014 9:29 am

Hi,

I built a bassman amp with a bunch of extra controls. Complete build from scratch

The build consisted of

Amp ohm capacitors (tin foil oil)
H and t electrolytics
Poly small value capacitors
Tung sol 5881
Rca 12ay7
P10r reissue speakers

Video here , just a video to get started on youtube ;-) crappy I phone mic and £100 guitar!

Modified sound city amp!

now it sounds like a little marshall!

This is a guitar i've had most of my life, the ugliest thing ever. It sounds cutting though.

promise I will do some better sound quality in the future.

its just a iphone.

edit-
hmmmm the it just cuts off that's a bit weird. oh well!

I love how it can get so gritty and then suddenly clean up just by you laying back on your attack... Really cool sounding amp! Great shimmery jazz chords to spice that up, too. Awesome.

I really like the guitar sound you have! I'm curious as to what are you planning on sampling from this amp. :D

Thanks!

On sampling,

what do you like I guess? The sound city or the bassman, Two very different amps!

Both  If I had to choose though, I really like the way the Sound City sounds

Ok,

Well the bassman we can do because I built that one and I'll probably keep it forever....

The sound city is a amp that is completely modded that might get sold to a customer, but if it's still here I will for sure. The great thing about it is that the transformer is out of spec on the primary impeadence which is part of its unique sound quality! This is something about guitar amps that I love , when things are wrong they can often add to the complexity and sound better!
