Down the road, I do hope that alternative GUI screens could be a reality, and something the User can choose from.

This could even be a new, 3rd party developer gig.

I would pay for the look I prefer.

I agree. That would be great.

Eveyone please keep in mind these are just my opinions, and I wouldn't even express them if I didn't hold these tools in such high regard as I do. I'd like to see them age well with new features and visual enhancements, as is the case with Murano and many others like White, Navy, and Ivory. All of those look beautiful. You won't hear me say that about Green, though. Green3's GUI is over the top... I just think there's too much coming at you all at once there.

We can move on now :D

We cannot have easily alternate skins, too much work
About colour choices, it helps because also leds are involved. Before there was simply too much red, the picture was not balanced, and it was difficult to spot which band was doing what. Pre, eq, filters... Same colors for everything.
It was really hard to understand at a first glance.
The picture was seriously unbalanced since there was only black, white and red. It has a monochromatic effect, very claustrophobic, with a very high contrast.
If you spend hours on it you need something more relaxing
Last but not least, our preview renders are just preview created by the render engine, as usually.
In general we tune labels a bit after, for example decreasing shadows and increasing the white of labels, duplicating them. This is routine for us, it should not even be mentioned

About ik multimedia, it is really a bad example.
All knobs have the same reflection and imho they are a photo. The knob is not even modeled. The background is flat. Difficult to read. A mess. I never comment other products but imho this one is the example of a product I seriously dislike. No pun intended, they are a great company

And now a serious though. All our skins in my personal opinion are an artwork. I don't pretend you understand me. I realize sometimes we are too much forward thinking, and we cannot please everybody.
We create them, and very often we are not looking for a consensus. They are following invisible rules, and you need to decipher our message. There are not things where I didn't spend enough time till the message was correct.
Take everything like a whole.
Last note, you are not forced to install all updates.

Ok... It was a long post.
So short story:

We spend a lot of time on the gui.
We don't stop if the product is good or beautiful, or we have spent enough time in it
We stop when the product is giving to me the exact feeling I'm looking for.

How difficult would it be for users to modify the skins? Is it a straightforward enough process to do so? I've never really looked into skinning, but I would love to know how it's done. I'm an extremely visual person as I'm sure you can tell.

Not difficult but
- Not now
- It adds bugs and support issues
- We should provide plain files
- I want products releases exactly in the way we planned

Take a rest. Scarlet3 will be that one.
- We are not forcing to install it
- I seriously believe this is the best GUI we have ever created
- I'm very proud of it. Seriously. It it's exactly what I like
- We are not asking money for it to existing customers
- Scarlet 2 is already debugged ahs running
- price of scarlet will be raised a bit, but you could decide to not buy it
- If you don't like it I cannot help. We cannot please everybody. So we decided to please myself. In each company there is someone who takes decisions. We cannot hear customers on this exact topic because there are different opinions. So we'll go on that way. Today we are here because we followed my instinct.

I would prefer the knobs not have any highlights. Highlights are distracting.
All the indicator lights are too big and have shiny chrome highlights. More visual distraction.
This is supposed to be a mastering EQ not a jewelery shop display window.

Can't you make the knobs matte like Ivory? Or are you going to 'improve' that GUI as well?

Eh, I answered.
This time it is a "no".
Ivory was good 1 year ago.
Times change! Enjoy my crazyness!!!!!!!!

Today we have scarlet3. Who knows what scarlet4 will be!
Smaller leds? Bigger leds? More colors? Less colors? My instinct will decide it!

Wouldn't it be lovely if Scarlet looked like this:

No worries. Like I said before everything I've said is all constructive criticism. I've been in critiques most of my career and if there's one thing I can say it is that this type of feedback is not meant to be taken offensively. There's no need to defend your position because it's not being attacked in any way. It is all in the spirit of creativity and should not be taken otherwise.

By the way I just found Asseca's tutorial. I'll see what I can glean from that. Don't know how it would tie into Acqua plugins but at least I can learn something ;)

I don't defend. I explain.
I need to release things I'm seriously convinced about.
In the past I tried to satisfy everyone, but products loose identity easily.
We are not ik, waves or slate! All we need to do is releasing things in the way we like! I've left already a job because I was not doing things in the way I wanted! No regrets, scarlet3 is exactly what i want in my screen. Exactly like murano 2, purple, pink, amethyst, magenta3, navy, green3...

That's the beautiful thing about constructive criticism. No explanation is necessary. All you do is nod and say "ok cool" and then go ahead and do whatever you want anyway!

I think Giancarlo is genius awesome. I also think he's COMPLETELY BONKERS!

So just to rub it in a little....imagine you went to sleep tonight and woke up to find Scarlet looked like this:

http://klontz.blogspot.com.au/2014/11/u ... ng-eq.html

Notice the matt knobs? Notice that?

See how they don't call attention to themselves? NOTICE THAT?

See HOW SUBTLE and UNOBTRUSIVE they look?

SEE THAT?

What a beautiful crafting tool. Its something you use.

Now look at Scarlet3. It USES YOU!
