the mastering pack is an "addon".
it installs additional sampleratevectors and a different (bigger) skin.

first install the "normal version" and then run the masteringpack installer afterwards.
system 1: windows 8 32 bit - samplitude prox/x3, tracktion6/7, reaper
system 2: mac osx yosemite - reaper(32+64bit), tracktion6/7(32+64bit)

both systems on: macbook pro (late 2009), core 2 duo 3,06 ghz, 4 gb ram, graphic: nvidia geforce 9600M GT 512 MB

It's confusing.

What is the file name of the different skin?

Is it a .N2S?
How are we supposed to know?

What is sometimes we want the large skin and sometimes we want the normal skin?

Can we switch between the two?
I don't get it.

And do I apply the fix files to the mastering pack and non-mastering pack?

I figured it out. I got the larger interface working at 96k, which was my goal all along.

Here is why my brain couldn't deal with it. Most plugin interfaces let you scale and choose the size. I didn't realize that whatever size you chose you were stuck with. I like the largest size (much clearer), but I didn't know in advance if I would, and I assumed I could easily switch back within my DAW. However the magic number prevents this, so whichever interface is used first you are stuck with (even if you make two instances of the plugin in your VST folder). This would have all been much simpler if the larger "skin" was just a separate download with a simple instruction telling the user where to drop the file in their plugin folder. Calling it a mastering pack and adding frequencies I didn't want only boggled my mind.

Good news is, I paired Magenta with Titanium 1-Band last night on a drum buss and I did an AB against Slate VMR. I really like Slate VMR but Magenta and Titanium crushed it with quality--depth and thickness and glue. Best part is, the CPU drain was actually less with Magenta and Titanium!

Cool.

I am still not sold as to whether Titanium is better than an external compressor, but it is certainly the best ITB right now. Tim's 100A and 76 are good too by the way.

sometimes plugins have a similar quality, but you need to print a lot of tracks in order to detect you are loosing progressively focus and detail.
This is something a quick a/b test can't tell you.

I never tried vmr, but the feedback I'm receiving after the release of titanium are all going in the same direction.

What surprised me were the a/b test on gearslutz.
Not only vmr, but also varimu and other products. If you hear a/b tests they are different on ipad!!!!!!!!! I'm not speaking about expensive speakers, you need just an ipad for listening!
Obviously they are different thingy: I could not tell you at first glance what is the hardware or the software BECAUSE I'M NOT EXPERT ABOUT WHAT THE SOUND SHOULD BE but:

- they are not the same for sure
- I know the hardware was used in countless productions and it turned out pretty good, not sure for the software since it is quite an other thing
- if the plug is behaving like most of plugins (transient destroying, loosing of focus, strange and too much heavy distortion, grainy) you can't hear just from a test but you need to get if you apply on the whole song, multiple times

ie a lot of plugins are based on minimum phase filters, and you can't detect a single one but a whole mess of single phase filters are moving in the same direction, comparing with a full studio crowded with different kinds of equalizers and filters.

Hi everybody,

apologies, if the following has already been discussed and solved. I did not read the whole thread, but did not find anything in the release notes about Rev D.

Im using 1.3.811 at the moment.

Here's the bug I found:

When in CUT mode, the frequency selector of the upper right band is always one step behind of what is actually happening. On position '560Hz' for example, the cut happens at 820Hz and so on. I checked with noise and an analyzer.
It doesnt happen in BOOST Mode and as far as quick, superficial testing prooved, not in the other bands.

cheers
Tobi

I can confirm this as well. Using Mac AU+VST. Also in the lite version.

Wondering if you guys have plans on porting Magenta onto the new Core6 technology ?

It would be cool to have this eq with reduced latency and stuff as well.

It was confirmed in the Ivory thread that Magenta, Amber and Green will be updated to Core 6.

It would have to be the 3rd (high-mid) band since he said that the 560Hz is actually 820Hz.....yes?
