Latency

Post by babiuk » Sun Jun 18, 2017 5:59 pm

About ZL, I don't understand clearlly...
Reaper has a feature to manage the latency every plugin includes, so it would be able to avoid the latency of Nebula and acquas, so why must we use the ZL ones?

Thanks in advance

The reasons for ZL are for faster acting controls when mixing (less latency between moving a knob/fader and hearing the difference) and for tracking with Nebula/Acqua plugins without the normal added latency Nebula/Acquas typically add.

thanks, botus, so for mixing I will not be receiving benefits if I use ZL instead normal one, yes?

Will depend how your audio host behaves with long delay compensations, for example with two 1024 buffers size plug-ins in serial, some hosts not compensate latency, or have limited compensation in control surfaces.

Less CPU load due there is more time/buffer for threads synchronization.

Possibly faster responding meters/controls (at least that is what I experienced). It's kind of cool to try out. The ZL ones feel tighter and quicker in their operation, at the expense of CPU obviously.

Personally, I only use one ZL for tracking (either a preamp "on the way in" or a masterbus preamp). Depending on your preferences, you might like ZLs better for mixing.
