Linear phase EQ with analogue curves

Post by yr » Thu Dec 09, 2010 8:32 pm

Hi,
I was wondering- is it technically possible to use NAT to sample an analogue EQ while disregarding the phase response of the hardware? I can imagine that at least when it comes to mastering EQ's, capturing the analogue EQ curves while maintaining a linear phase response might give very interesting results...

You can sample an analog EQ using NAT, then try to match curves into an "algo" EQ but the level/Q dependency should be done under extra programing maybe through a table.

Thank you. I realize that bypassing the phase response can't be done directly in NAT. Would be interesting to see if it will become possible at one point in the future. Imagine being able to capture harmonic distortion and curve shapes independently from the phase response- that would make for a very interesting "hybrid" EQ.

yes, it's virtually possible using stone. We'll add new features in nat...

STONE: Minimum phase filters are applied on sampled kernels in order to minimize high/low frequencies roll-off, to fix issues caused by poor AD/DA converters or by the intrinsic behavior of the target system (e.g. tape sampling).
