78Five - Compression & FET Distortion

Post by TranscendingMusic » Thu Mar 29, 2012 11:55 pm

Finally released!

About '78 Five'

78 Five was created by a chain that includes serial compression, filtering, with the focus being centered and inspired around the now discontinued F*******e Platinum Penta. This final result however is really something different than its separate counterparts. With the "78 Five" and "78 Five II" presets, you get a more traditional compressor in regards to parameter control and are more about movement and rhythmic variation than full-on sonic character. With the instrument presets, attack and release are all fixed and set by general frequency ranges of typical instruments and created as individual presets. Ratio is fixed as well however varying from preset to preset of course. Part of the chain also included the FET distortion gain. Whereas "78 Five" and "78 Five II" are about the compression, these instrument presets are about FET distortion with optional and yet minimal controls for compression of any part of the signal. Upon insertion of these instrument presets, you are already dealing with level matched compression/excitation so just putting it on a track, with 0 threshold will give you some nice flavor.

There are 9 Presets total in this library

Hey Richie glad you found it :D
How's the demo working for you?

Thanks MetalBlast, and even though I absolutely did not have ubk1 in mind, I kind of see what you mean with the options of adjusting rhythmic and sonic character!

It seems I'm done with final tweaks and the release will be tomorrow. The full library allows for so much sculpting 8-)

The demo is cool. I usually have a hard time with these limited functionality things... I get frustrated and bored with them! I am just a spoiled brat who likes to have it all! But until I got annoyed ( :P ) I love the possibilities with this! I will be purchasing this for sure!

I am such a Nebulaholic.... Already bought this comp library, and already have 3 or 4 different instances tweaked in a sweet reggae remix.... This is not a typical compressor to my ears. Tons of mojo and usefulness. Nice!

Great set of programs. To my ears it's a great way to compress audio ITB atm. It has the famous Nebula analog mojo and it can compress more than 6dB in a natural way.

Didn't really test them "properly".But did it real quick yesterday nite before closing time.

First impression : Thick as hell ! Fat ass!

My monitoring system wasn't the best at this time but what it did to the low end of the spectrum was really nice.

I didnt' really focus on the mid and high range nor did I listen through headphones with fresh ears so...

But yeah it's a very promising library.I will check it out definitely.

@Richie: I definitely see an use on some 70's reggae roots productions or on some 80's even mid 90's hip hop tracks.

I will try to post again soon and actually relate some results with "technical jargon", but right now all of my comments are more about the "feel" of what I hear with these presets; The clean crispy guitars gained a different snap and weight. I didn't use this on each track, but on a "skank buss". Nice glue and mojo (that word again, sorry, but it IS mojo) without losing their singular aspect, which is crucial in roots reggae. Horns felt a little glassier and classier. Lead vocals took on a great grainy yet still clear quality (huh?). More later! Time to get this remix done.

Yeah really great!

Your programs allways have the best compression.

I liked this on anything up front in the mix for keeping it more natural ,It sounded great for vocals!

Snares i like your Draw her , green is everything in between those two.
