very cool eric, I've been planning on the 'vintage' rat, the older style gtr pedal.

Eric,

Does this program have any parameters to play with ?
Filter / distortion level ?

cheers
Pete

Just drive amount. This is intended for overall saturation.

Ha! I used to own the old version of the RAT for many years, which was my main go-to distortion. Loved it...very dense and punchy. Back then (like 10 years ago) some PPL said that the newer versions didn't have the sound of the original...oh, whatever...I might check this out.

I read there's a "drive" function. It's not the standard Nebula drive? It's a seperate drive only for this plugin, to dial in the real distortion of the unit?

thanks
M

This RATuration program is amazing! It really adds the right grit and weight to synth basses. Please keep making nasty distortion programs like this!

OK, here are a couple of examples.

Bass1 - No RATuration:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/h6joiscxg ... 1NORAT.mp3

Bass1 - With RATuration:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/z80644xk2 ... ITHRAT.mp3

RATuration gain is set to about 23.5db. This example features the TAL-Elek7ro free VST. The only thing changed is turning the RATuration on and off. I realize the RATuration file peaks higher than the non-RATuration file, but you could always follow it with a limiter if the peaks get too crazy. In practice, I haven't found this volume boost to be a problem. Obviously, the more gain you apply in the RATuration program, the louder the result will be. I didn't bother to compensate for the gain boost since the RATuration attenuates higher frequencies, making it sound quieter than when the effect is bypassed.

Bass2 - No RATuration:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/q8mm1k6jp ... 2NORAT.mp3

Bass2 - With RATuration:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/hgwz2fmo2 ... ITHRAT.mp3

The second example is not as obvious, but shows the nice low-mid thickness of the RATuration. The gain is set to around 23db. The synth is unknown (arrived to me for mixing as a .wav file). Again, the only difference is toggling RATuration on/off.

Check out the RATurated waveforms--they look so gnarly! Again, thanks for the great program Eric.

Hi there,

I'm looking for a distorsion to insert on a guitar, before the amp (well, like we do with a guitar pedal...). I've got the guitar ;) and I've got the Amp Deluxe programs. So, I would like to overdrive gently a guitar sound but sometimes also in a more crunchy way. Do you think the RATuration could do the trick ? Or would you have any other advice ?

Thank you.

RATuration is more saturation/overdrive. Sounds like your wanting a more full on distortion. What DAW software do you use?

Thanx for your answer, Eric.

Well, yes, I'd rather have a real distortion. I've found the stompboxes in Amplitube, Guitar Rig and so on, sounding very digital, cold, flat, and with some hard high ends. I'm looking for something warmer, deeper, with more mellow and not too much distorted (not for metal tunes). I tried some fuzz plug-ins and it was better but they lacked attack/transients and were very approximate (fuzz-like indeed !).

I use Reaper 3 on a Mac. Do you have something in mind ?

Hey, I know probably the most annoying answer when someone asks a software question but fuzz pedals are fairly cheap you know and are exactly what you are looking for.
but on software front, I got nick crows (pc only) plugin bundles of his different guitar preamps, seemed quite useable.

(edit) just re-read your post and saw you are on mac. Airwindows do some free guitar distortion/amp effects you might want to try..cheers
