I've just realised that I'm in love with the sound of pretty much every album done on a 70s CADAC. It would really be awesome to get some of that magic ITB.

Ah, yes. I guess I was thinking Acquas for those, for whatever reason.

The 2264 and 525 don't do it for me as far as compressor action.

Hear you on the 525 and 2264 but don't dismiss them for their tone which is great if you only need 1 of 2 dB reduction.

They're not quite the same hardware but Tim C's Lunchpail 527 and his 33609 are I think Way better for compression and might do the trick for you.
