Would love to hear a demo (obviously 1 demo program would be kinda dumb :)) - preferably drums (snare?) and piano. Anybody?

has someone else noticed a pretty big bass lift when using the atr 102 presets from cdr? even more heavy with the mm machine ...

They do - also VST Apex Plugin / Tape Booster which are very nice indeed ....this combo brought me a lot of joy & is uncannily close to the sonics / vibe of what I remember from working with tape... the ATR 102 in Apex is a standout, it captures the tone/vibe really well of the hardware unit IMO..its surreal being able to use ATR-102 in a multitrack kind of mode in the DAW as opposed to a mixdown 2 track machine.... I believe CDS used one of the newer tape formulas in making the libraries & VST's (?)...

I would definitely be very interested whatever Tim P comes out with in the pro tape realm too - especially that AMPEX within arm's reach which I would snap up immediately, if that ever happens :-)

Not really - it's a nice little head bump, but nothing extreme.

I've tested the tape with a lot of different instruments... and believe me ... it works very well on almost everything.
It´is very flexible in tone and in saturation
Also works great on bass, acoustic instruments,vocals....
It's great to remove the harshness and glue tracks together
All that with the magnificent "Dynamic Aura" that Tim Petherick adds to libraries :D

Picked this one up - nice Tim!
The input knob and Print-thru are really good sounding and fun to tweak. Will continue tweaking today even on a full mix. :)

Thanks for the comments.

On use-

There are no rules, I wanted it to be quick, easy and fun to use. Saturation was something I looked into for a while, thinking of the best way to make it work in nebula. Saturation will vary from machine to machine. So for example a j37's response is very different in the way it saturates compared to this tape machine, so there will be a different saturation for every tape I make.

The print through was something that was originally supposed to be subtle but I thought I may as well make it so it can be used as a more audible delay ;) You'll notice print through timing changes along side IPS. This was a average estimate of print through from tape loops. So when a tapes speed changes so does its print through time.

My only advice would be if you want to keep things linear, you would use low input.

EDIT-one tip I would advise is about order, use tone before saturation.

Yeah - bought it anyway :D The library really sounds great, from my first 15 minutes with it. Saturation is captured nicely, but the cleaner sound is also amazing for the bass (synth) in my mix of the moment.
You're right, jpn, one cannot go wrong with it. Thanks!

EDIT: soooo happy that you used 468!!!

Bought it, sounds great! Tim, how long is your library from the real hardware? By the way, the theresold knob in saturation presets is designed to adjust the tape compression, right?

Are you planning to release another tape libraries? wich ones?

Greetings and thanks!!!!

To answer your question about how close-

Frequency response and harmonics match the original sweep tone. To give a percentage of how accurate it is would be abstract. It sounds very close on tests I originally made.

I will release more tape yes... Also I have a technics turntable sampled. I have test tones applied to vinyl.

Threshold was used for saturation so it could be tuned easier, I did it this way Because using a input would increase the risk of clipping nebula

Glad you like it!

great! i waited for that ... :D
thought numerous times in the past - "someone should cut testtones in vinyl" - nice :)
