Getting more time with this EQ ... but having a question come up.

I'm looking at the displayed 'Q' values displayed and viewing with the VSTAnalyzer scope.

Has anyone been able to correlate these values ???

The 'Q' numbers displayed on Nebula shows a bandwidth that is much wider.

A 'Q' of 1 should be ~ 1 octave ... so a bell at 300hz at +6dB should have -3db points around 200 and 400 hz.

The MFeQ at the same setting shows the -3dB down points at 70 and 4000 Hz. This is not even in the ballpark.

Forget using your ears ... I'm talking strict analysis.

What's going on ?

Ah... I don't know why it is so wide to be honest but I always tend to keep the Q at the middle point or just lower it a bit if I'm cutting. I didn't analyze this before but maybe that's how the unit works (in theory it should work as you say, though). You know the drill "if it's too much just go back a few steps"

I've never found two equalizers (be it plugin, VST or whatever) where the Q values seem to match in how narrow it actually is.

Even seen EQs where the value seems inverted. Q 6 is very narrow cut on one EQ, while on the other to get kinda the same narrow cut the Q was at 0.12 (1 / 6?).

I always did it by ear because of this. 'Q' has no meaning IMHO, it just means 'broadness' of the bell but without a predefined unit of measurement.

When all this wonderful Nebulas will be released under a single consistent GUI (like the SIlk Eq was lately) ITB audio will change forever and Nebula will conquer the world

Anyone who would make NVC's for Mac/PC and 32/64 bits could make a ton of money at the moment. I wonder why it's not happening. I'd pay good money for a MFC+MFQ NVC...

Anyway not to detract to the amazing job of RJ but still hope this will be Nebula-native very soon and it's what will make Nebula do the big leap in spreading (in one word usability).

Yeah I'm sure RJ's work is great but he's already been clear that Mac 64 is not happening. Can't blame him...I can only imagine what a headache this must be.

I'm just thinking a max expert out there should be able to come up with something like this.
