ALEX b CLC signal flow question

Post by void » Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:30 pm

If Im trying to re create a real world situation, I would go through a mic or line input, through r2r, and then back through...im guessing CLC SNR send/buss/return? In the manual it states that the CLC SNR is for reverb and FX, but it would also be where tape returns would input the console wouldnt it? thanks.

CLC Mic input -> R2R -> CLC Line input ->....

But I suggest:

PCS or MTP -> R2R -> CLC Line input ->....
(if you need more color or character)

Hi Alessandro,

I'm curious, why didn't you use a CLC mic input there after PCS/MTP? I do that and find it cool, just curious why you don't go thru the console before the tape.

Cheers

Where would you add the fliters from MLC (or any other)?

PCS - R2R - MLC Input.

Lowpass filter before the MLC Input cuts the low freq but the MLC input adds 'sub frequencies' back after (before you have said this is 'part of the sound'.

If you add the eq filter after the MLC Input then its removes all sub frequencies. Does this effect the 'effect' of the console?

Hope I made that clear. :P

Console input followed by HPF will be the logical order, unless you are trying to simulate using an HPF on your preamp (for instance).

It's a matter of personal taste.
I don't like the mic input by S*L and I prefer a lot using the MTP for all my tracks.

In the real world you can't connect the tape return into mic input of the console causing different impedance, so you should use the line input. But in the virtual world everything is possible

@ the OP, remember that Nebula is a lot about forum reading... a lot ... It's a shame that the old forum is down now. There was a lot of good infos there too...

Check out what Mercado Negro,Ngarjuna, and other said about AlexB consoles and general virtual console workflow in this forum (or @ Gearslutz, etc). All your questions have already been answered...Use the "search button" (top left).

The real 4000E is pretty modular (to a certain extend)...you can switch the order of EQ/filters/dynamics.Dig papy! It's all here, you don't even have to move from your seat! Good luck
