STN - Variable MU Tube Compressor/Limiter

Post by rhythminmind » Sat Mar 19, 2011 10:56 am

Image

UPDATE 7-20-11: Updated Attack/Release accuracy.

Overview

*Variable Mu is known for it’s smooth polishing “GLUE”. A classic “auto leveling” tool.
*Retains transient relationships within a mix. Allows control of the overall macro dynamics.
*Flattering 2-bus frequency curve.
*Smooth tube sound signature. (Wanting punch? checkout the DME 1968 & 165a)
*Captured via Lynx conversion @ 24/96.

Usage Tips

Use your ears & not your meters. Tube compressors are extremely slow in comparison to VCA/FET designs. VariMu by nature will have slower attack & longer release times. Use the MAKEUP GAIN/OUTPUT to set your final output level. Most importantly experiment.

Download

*Avaiable VIA signaltonoize.com

For some weird reason I can't find it in COM section!
It's not recognized by Nebula at all
Any clue?

WOW! This is great on the mix!

I have no other compressor that does this sound on my mix. It is shimmering. :D

I have the glue on the mix at the moment but this thing is very different.

Please sell it to me now!

Using it on a dubstep track with a loud sub bass and a very loud snare this has controlled the peeks EXACTLY how I wanted it to and has added depth and quite a lot of high-end shimmer than will not need much more eqing.

Its sounds great!!

The only problem I have is that nebula's threshold dosn't seem to make any sense , but I find this with all compressors in nebula.Anybody else have this problem?
I'm like -25db and its sounds like 5-10db.

Is my nebula not set correct?

I'd love to know a little more about this program. The reduction meter stays the same no matter how I adjust the input or the threshold. The compressor is definitely doing something . What are the attack and release times?
VM-Tube-7 is around 120-130 mgs, this one is almost two megs. It says it is 5 kernals, hmmm.
Thanks for the preview. It's doing something to tighten up a drum loop, even though it feels squashed it doesn't feel lifeless like with many plugins. That's all for now.
thanks,
cheers

Which version of Nebula you guys are using since I can't make this program even show in my Nebula here?

I'm using 1.3.445

test with a stereo track, it makes thing clean and more focus!
Response of the comp at this fixed parameters version is smooth & natural as well. I patched 3 instanes of this comp onto the same track with minimum GR which shew up around -7db (though I doubt it) and it delivered great result!
