Installing library on an external drive OSX

Post by Michelle242 » Tue Dec 14, 2010 7:40 pm

Hallo guys, I'm on a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.5.8. As the massive library is too big for my internal hdd I would like to install the library on an external hdd. Tried to install the whole Nebula on my external hdd but this was not possible, tried to edit the .xml file DATAPATH to point to my external hdd but this didn't work out either. Is there a way to get the library working on my external hdd??

Best wishes,

Michelle.

I think You need to add
<ALTERNATIVEDATAPATH> /

After the / put the path in
nebula still needs to see the orginal path for the init files

At first biiig thank you for helping! But this didn't work out. I have all the library files on my external hdd
"Extern 2" in the folder AcusticaAudio/Nebula3
and there I have the "Programs" and the "Vectors" folder.
This is what my ,xml file looked before:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
<?generated by Nebula2 parser?>
<MASTER>

Paths must designate the drive origin, for example: c:/ or whatever the drive at hand is
.
So like this:

<DATAPATH> C:/Library/Audio/Presets/AcusticaAudio/Nebula3/ </DATAPATH>

Aaaaah! Bob you made my day! You were almost right. But on a Mac there is not letter like "C:". It's "Volumes/". So I put this into the datapath and now it's cooool and it works! :)

For anyone who needs to know, my .xml files in the Library/Audio/Plugins/Components and VST folders now look this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?>
<?generated by Nebula2 parser?>
- <MASTER>
<MAGIC>12gd</MAGIC>
<DATAPATH>Volumes/Extern 2/AcusticaAudio/Nebula3/</DATAPATH>
<PROGRAMSUBPATH>Programs/</PROGRAMSUBPATH>
<VECTORSUBPATH>Vectors/</VECTORSUBPATH>
<SETUPSUBPATH>Setups/</SETUPSUBPATH>
<CACHESUBPATH>Temp/</CACHESUBPATH>
<SKINSUBPATH>Skins/</SKINSUBPATH>

Ah yes, yes I'm barely ever on a mac these days
Anyways, yea the general idea for either platform: the drive origin needs to be designated. Glad it helped!

Hi,

Really weird. I had my libraries on my main HD, then moved them to an external HD and replaced the files with aliases to the new location. Everything worked for a few weeks then today it stopped... I tried editing the DATAPATH line in the .xml files, but I just keep getting:

"ROM MEMORY Ko: rom descriptor not found (rom.xml)"

I didn't change anything else. My goodness this is confusing!

EDIT: Ok I figured it out! Didn't realise you had to copy the "Setups" folder to the new location of your libraries. Phew! :-)

1. Reinstall Nebula.
2. Reinstall your key.
3.Add again your alternative data path tag.
