i would think win 10 would have lots of things that must be turned off before it qualifies to be a proper audio computer
there are so many apps and stuff in there that is on by default

and some programs may not even be supported yet
that's the biggest reason i wont touch win10 right now

its probably not hard for someone that is very used to tweak windows to tweak win10 properly for audio, but im playing it safe

as long as win7 is supported im staying on win7
less junk that we don't need in win7 :)

would be nice if someone with windows 10 experience
that is also using Nebula and Acquas
could give us some feedback on this though
if its really worth the upgrade

we should perhaps create a own thread for this :)

i just tried windows backup tool on my gaming rig twice
just to make sure i didn't screw up my music computer lol

well it works like a charm, if you need only to backup you're system drive this tool does the job perfect

i deleted a bunch of files before i used the already backed up system image
everything went back to normal and deleted files came back as expected

i would not chose true image over this

i failed to backup my gaming rig the first time,
the system image must be backed up to an internal drive, then it works :)

i must admit a internal drive is much safer,
i have dropped a couple of externals to the floor before and boom the drives was destroyed and all the data,
they are very fragile the externals, unless you're external is a SSD
you must physically destroy a SSD on purpose for it to break lol

win backup tool can actually backup more than one drive if you want
but i will use it for my system drive only

all other drives i have in the audio pc gets backed up anyway manually

and it will take much longer time getting you're system up and running if the backup file is huge

im gonna try this on my music computer too now that i trust the win7 backup tool, but i gonna wait a couple of days before i do it because now is mixing time
but im 100% sure it will work

i`ll give you a report though even it works hehe

i was sure i needed the repair disk for booting up the image clone but no, don't need it, im happy i made a DVD and a usb repair disk though
because one day it might be handy to have
who knows

Cheers

Does the Win Back-up do 'Incremental' backups?

[note: I had Cronis backup on my old computer. Tried to un-install it ... killed my computer. Took 2 wks to manually repair. I wasn't the only one. Buyer beware]

i actually don't see any reason for buying a program for backup
at least not for my use
win backup tool covers all i need

im actually not on reaper 5.22 yet
i thought i was, but now im a little scared to update lol

well if i do a backup first i can always go back if it gets quirky :)

man i love this backup thing, it make me feel so safe lol

i have made many new neb setups today so a backup before Reaper update is needed

Cheers

Recenlty, I've tweaked the buffer setting of Reaper as below and it runs so smooth. It might not fit for everyone but it's worth a try if someone has problem.

Please expand on this. You are not the first user to have issues that come down to a skin. Have you contacted the skin creator to explain the issue? Which skin was it? Did you have any other weirdness?

so it was actually a nebula skin that caused the problem, i better be careful with custom skins then , thanks for clearing that up :)

That was 37j skins by Tim but i seem to be the only one ...

- I had audio drops in Reaper , Skin changed by itself and no issue anymore ...

- I don't know if latest Reaper works totally fine because i'm on Reaper for only 6 months and i wouldn't say that i'm a power user yet !

Question. Two things.

1. RAM usage
2. CPU load

Are you finding any difference between the 'stock' skin compared with the custom skin ?

so custom reaper skins can also cause problems compared to using the default Reaper skin ?

Yes and any addon in any application, especially in Windows due DPI Scaling, and MS clear text optimization.

thanks, i actually think i will fully uninstall Reaper completely(absolutely everything)
and use it in default mode

i cant remember i had any easely crackles in audio with master processing before and group buses where i sent lots of instruments
it should really not happen on a 5820k when it didn't even happen on my mac mini i7 on windows 8.1 64 boot camp on reaper 64
i didn't even alter background services in ms config back then and it worked perfect

i have a hard time thinking it was win 8.1 that performed better than windows 7 hehe

and i had way more plugins and vst instruments too + a slow 5400rpm hdd where i runned everything from including vst instruments
now i have faster and twice the ram i had before too haha
i also have ssd for my system now and ssd for running vst instruments and even a dedicated 7200 rmp hdd to run my audio projects from and i still have crackles if i don't turn off background services

the default reaper skin newer bothered me anyway
it looks pretty good to me when i have altered the layout in the mixer to my liking :)
