Giancarlo: Which kind of computer hardware should I need ?

Post by madigwann » Fri Mar 22, 2013 9:29 pm

I'm new to the forum so Hello ! to everybody around the globe. I've recently bought Nebula 3 Pro, but I haven't really started using it seriously, just some playing with it. I'm about to invest in some computing hardware to make music ITB. I'm aware I'll need some strong CPUs to handle the Nebula instances with ease, especially the reverbs... My question goes to the conceptors of Nebula, to help me spend the money in the most efficient manner. Which route is better ? Consumer CPUs like the i7 2700k, with all I can do to make it reach high overclocking speeds or Pro Xeon CPUs with many more cores, but running at 2.4-3.00GHZ max ? Does it benefit with higher speeds or more cores ? I've seen cases where consumer CPU platforms can put Xeon platforms to shame because the software don't take advantage of all the threads big Xeons can work with. So I really need to know. Thank you for your help.

I'd prefer Core i7 3930K. It's worth the money. Xeon worth much more and this is not so reliable, imo. Two PC's with cheap video, decent MB (if you are not overclocker), two Nebula licenses will make sense. Nuendo (and almost all DAWs, afaik) have LAN linking so u can make one project on few PC's and push it to the limit (almost to realtime, if use Henry advice about Kernels settings)
Sorry for my bad english =))
