What I'm doing is saving FX chains for let's say: S*L EQs, S*L Channel Strip (with line input, EQ and Compressor), A*I Strip, etc...
The chains are really where it's at! You can setup an entire Never 1073, Pultec or A*I 550 with Mic or line in and outs with the click of a mouse and prepare to be amazed and have your CPU nailed. But the sound is well worth it. Check out Groove3.com for some really amazing tutorials, especially for Reaper.
