CPU usage difference between Neb 2 and Neb 3 Pro

Post by blandry » Sat Jul 30, 2011 9:43 am

Hello. I'm running 499n Nebula 2 and want to get an idea of the cpu savings I would get upgrading to Neb 3 Pro.
Kind Regards,
B

At the risk of sounding rude, why does it matter? You will get a performance boost and you will be able to correctly use every library. As it stands, you're not getting the peak performance, so why do you bother?

Limited funds. Trying to decide whether to upgrade my processor or go for 3 pro. And yes, that sounded pretty rude.

Sorry, dude, kinda just how I see it.

What processor do you have, what would you be upgrading to? A faster processor will let you do EVERYTHING better. If you think that you need a new processor, any version of Nebula is going to be difficult to use. I started with 3 Pro and could seriously only do two instances of the most basic programs at a time. If I hadn't moved to an i7, I would have had to stop using it altogether.

Nebula 3 free uses the same engine as Nebula pro. You could run some tests and find out

But I thought that Nebula Pro 3 Server was the only one using the Core 3. I have a decent quad core, and my Nebula performance got a huge boost when I finally upgraded into the server version. The newest experimental version has been the best so far. I am having pretty good performance without an "i" series quad, although that would obviously be best. my Q8400 quad is still miles ahead of any dual core and I can use up to 15 HEAVY console instances, or well over 25 regular lower kernel presets.

I don't think blandry was considering the server version, but you're right about Nebula server being fastest with it's core 3 engine. Nebula 3 pro and Nebula 3 free still use core 2 engine, so should be comparable.

I do believe that Pro performs better than Free.

Big thanks for the info everybody, much appreciated.

I have a core 2 duo and can run 5 or 6 instances of the high kernal stuff, 12 or 13 of the low kernal.

I would be upgrading to a Q series quad like the one richie43 is running. I'm thinking maybe I should do this first and then go to 3 Pro or Server...

Man Nebula sounds good, I'm still blown away even though I can't use the latest compressors....yet!

p.s. 499n version Neb 2 (coreI) performs about as well for me as the 5 month old Neb 3 Free (coreII) did. That's kind of where my question was coming from, if that makes sense.
