Sidechain to everyone and for free (we are completely crazy)

Post by giancarlo » Thu Mar 03, 2011 3:31 pm

We are adding sidechain capabilities.
Specifications

1 - very soon (I'm testing on snap compressor, it's rock solid). I guess on next week.
2 - all versions supported (nebula2, nebula3, nebula3 pro, and incoming local server and server versions)
3 - based on quadro channels (like for example glue compressor). For example in cubase you create a quadro group, you route the bottom drum to input 3 and 4 and your music to input 1 and 2
4 - you could convert easily your existing compressors. I'll post instructions. You just edit the new EVF page and the FUN page (but I guess someone will convert existing programs for everyone posting the new N2P files)
5 - no cpu overhead. Server and client versions will waste twice the band for the sidechained programs only
6 - you could use it for other scopes than compressors. For example sidechained filters (you could drive a slider or an input variable for example)
7 - it will be supported by VST nebula but also AU (I'll fix the AU code soon)
8 - quality is awesome. Sidechained compressors are just perfect because they are triggered by an other track which is in general filled with a bottom drum or a groove. So there is no "instantaneous" matter at all (nebula already supports lookahead so timing is very accurate). I guess nebula will be your main tool for producing electro house and similar things
9 - I'll try to post a demo soon. I'm actually using it for doing my music. Oh, on "snap compressor" and "D*x compressor" is SOOOO awesome

So can you also filter out the bottom end for more natural compression ?

I'm having lots of fun with reapers ability to make any compressor multi-band (js:3bandsplitter) and M/S (js kanaka).
