Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

1. APEX tape ( I need to research the machines and tape they used @ Gold Star) 2. Tube console LINE IN or a tube mic preamp 3. Henry O. ribbon mic - something that cuts off everything above 8khz 4. Cupwise's Chambers of Myth 5. Tube console FX bus In this clip of a Gold Star session / Sonny & Cher ...

Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

I think you may be meaning mainly the congas or bongos which are very illustrative of echo sound, aren't you? It is a different arrangement from spector productions, being these more denses. This and the choice of quantity of echo signal being used may be the reason of the differences in sound, but...

Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

Fwiw - here's a rather fabulous document in the use of Gold Star chambers - Tijuana Brass , recorded in 1964 @ Gold Star (supposedly).. the fidelity, instrumentation, arrangements & dynamics I think help to allow the listener to digest the chamber sounds more than the in yer face Spector productions...

Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

Wagz - that's some great detective work, nice job! :-) Food for thought... In that audiogeekzine article, the chamber dimensions of "a mere 2×3 feet" must be wildly inaccurate, or perhaps some kind of Spinal Tap-esque misquote (stonehenge scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pyh1Va_mYWI ) I find it...

Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

But anyway - not wanting to cause too much thread drift :-) .. I'm excited & 'stoked' that Cupwise is exploring acoustic chambers in this series, which is , as far as I know, something no one else has done yet in Nebula..

Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

Just to be sure: are you meaning this release includes something intended to be close to Goldstar echo chamber? I would give everything for having that chamber available, but Goldstar does not exist since so many years and I think the convolution tech was not alive while Goldstar's life, so I think...

Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

On chambers - I believe the standard procedure in the old daze was to use a reel to reel tape machine in order to create the pre-delay for the chamber send. (Another ingredient in the sound..) On another note, I once did some work at a studio in the UK where they'd covered a small storeroom in tile ...

Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

Apparently its possible to rent time / send stuff remote into the Capitol Studio chambers in LA, but I have heard it is strictly verboten to run any kind of sweep for impulse responses, so it would seem even in these modern times, a unique great-sounding chamber is seen as a kind of intellectual pro...

Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

Btw - apparently the original Gold Star chambers may still be intact under the studio's old location, waiting for whoever can somehow tunnel down (hint hint :-) )

Re: Cupwise Real Spaces - Chambers Part A - Chambers of Myth

Very cool... 'insta buy'... I think reverb is taken very much for granted since the arrival of widely available cheap electronic & now digital 'verbs' (even EMT 140's were prohibitively expensive when they were under patent - I believe the equivalent of something like $20-40,000 in today's money)......

Re: Gold Plated: Plates of Legend III - Cupwise FX release!!

Awesome (Gold plated) - an insta-buy.... In my old workshop/studio (rip) I used to have a hardware 240 which I picked up in person in Germany, loading it into my small hatchback car (try that with a 140!).. I 1st encountered the EMT 240 gold foil while tracking some brass at a studio in London many ...

Re: Need Help for MAC LOGIC Configuration

Because of the heavy CPU demands many users find they have to adapt and work in a different way than they are used to.... It's kind of the 'price of admission' to work with this amazing technology... Use the 'freeze' function in Logic / render tracks.. Also check out the 'Nebula Man' utility for off...

Re: GOLD Analog Dreamware Anthology - TBR 18-19th april

I am curious about the tube pre and how it connects (if at all) to the rest of Gold eg: N from a certain period.... Does anyone have info about this tube element? (Curious minds need to know)
