I have all three and honestly, nten84 gets more usage. Alex version has a dirty quality that I really like a lot. If I am not mistaken though, his does not include the preamp, only the eq section. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. AITB ver is a little cleaner and for the price, nothing short ...

I would try the shelving but if that doesn't work... maybe some creative application of effects. It is harder to pull off in rap, but not impossible.

I would try the demo and/or shoot an email to cdsoundmaster. It is my understanding that you have the correct order of placement on paper but it can be used in sometimes surprisingly good ways outside of what you would expect. The vtmm2 allows you to take that desirable 3rd stage of tape compression...
